Art is Messy!

Oh, Blessed Friday!  I'm ready for the weekend how about you?  I took a break from my sketchbook in order to dig in and finish my sisters' birthday card.  My sweet sister and I just adore Sassy Cheryl's digis so of course I had to visit Cheryl's Sassy new store (which by the way, is fabulous) and pick out the perfect image.   Cheryl's images have a way of making me feel like a kid again.  I have the best time coloring them but choosing one is quite a process for me.  After ten store visits and three days, I made a decision.   I didn't pick one, I grabbed two (what can I say, they're like potato chips.)  Once I saw these two images, inspiration hit me like a V-8 and I dove right in.  I set the phone up, streamed Pandora with my whimsical music, grabbed the Copics and had a blast!  After I finished adhering the last detail, I leaned back to admire/critique my work and was distracted by something in my peripheral vision.  I looked up and shook my head.  My ever tidy, always neat as a pin studio looked like an embellishment tornado rolled across the desktop and caused a paper bomb to explode.  I giggled like a kid and thought "Art is messy."
Happy Birthday to my wonderful sister.  Check your mailbox.  Happy Mail is on the way<3
Hugs and happy crafting! -Kim
I started by creating a card base.  I cut two card bases (5 1/2 X 5  1/2)
They were adhered together to make a tri-fold.
I added tabs to the front flap and the inside flap.  Before I added my tabs, I measured and trimmed the front and inside flaps to accommodate the tabs.  This allows the card to fold properly.
If I use an image on my cards want to make the image the focal point.  Brown and black are two colors that allow this to happen.  Black makes a nice frame and brown is versatile and mute.
I lined and embellished each panel as desired.
I colored these images to represent me and my sister and I created this card to have a scrapbook/photo album feel.
and just to add a bit more mess to my workspace, I distressed the edges too.
I hope I've inspired you.  Now go "make a mess." Have a great weekend!

Sketchbook News: New Illustrations!

Happy Monday my friends! I hope you had a magnificent start to your week.  I have a couple of new illustrations hot off the sketch book but first I want to remind you about the candy at Forever Friends.  Time is almost up for you to link up for a chance to win free digis from my shop.  You have until Saturday, March 30th.  Make sure to leave the design team lovely comments on their inspiration cards.  This is one super-talented group of designers.

On to this week's new releases.  Don't you just love this time of year?  Spring has finally arrived waking up flowers, bees are buzzing and birds are everywhere.  Spring is my favorite season.  It gives me such inspiration to create.  Right now I have a yard full of insects including these little guys that swoop and dive all day around our pond.
Peek-a-boo Dragonflies flew into the shop
This time of year reminds me that it's almost time to hit the beaches.
I think these cute little crustaceans are up to no good.  These two reminded me of our vacations at Assateague Island, Maryland in the USA.  We would arm the children with flashlights in the evening hours and walk the beach, searching for Ghost Crabs.  Such fun and great memories.
Beach Crabs scuttled their way into the studio as well.
These images can be purchased in the studio by clicking on the desired image or my shop button at the top of the blog.  I wish each and every one of you a wonderful week.  Hugs and happy crafting!

Sketchbook News and a New Release

Good morning friends.  I hope you are having a terrific Tuesday.  Spring is almost here in the U.S. and South Carolina has turned into a pollen covered state.  Literally.  This time of year a yellow dust blanket drifts over us and covers EVERYTHING.  Though necessary for our state's beautiful floral variety the pollen makes allergy sufferers miserable and Kleenex sales go through the roof.  We pray for an April shower every day to alleviate the daily pollen dump.  We were lucky to get a spectacular thunderstorm last night so today will be tolerable.

My latest image has been slowly making his way on to my sketchbook.  This little guy has been a work in progress and finally complete.   Everyone meet OPC's Garden Snail.  This happy little fellow can be purchased at OPC's Studio on Etsy.  Just click on one of the images below.

You can also have a chance to win 2 free digital stamps from my studio by entering your name in the month long Candy give-away at Forever Friends. Just click below to enter your name in the drawing.
